THE WORST MEATS

THE WORST MEATS
Which types of meat must be avoided, if possible?
Bacon
It would be better not to eat these red meats or if you can’t help yourself, choose to eat one serving or less just to give in to your craving. Or better yet, read what these meats are all about, maybe you’ll change your mind about eating them.

Corned Beef

Corned Beef
Corned beef is my favorite breakfast meat but I learned that it comes from beef brisket, the fatty area of beef brisket. So, yes, sad face to the highest level – one serving contains 960 mg of sodium which is almost over the daily recommended allowance. It also has 5 grams of bad fat and 16 grams of healthy fat. It is packed with nitrates too. So, it’s a bit unhealthy.

Prosciutto

Prosciutto
It may look thin and when in your mouth, the feeling is so light but prosciutto is very unhealthy. It has a lot of salt like the corned beef with around 973 mg per serving. (The RDA for sodium is 1500mg for three meals.) Moreover, 40% of its fat is the saturated content. So yeah, go to the other way and choose chicken, just to be safe. But you can indulge once in a while – meaning like one serving in one year.

Ham

Ham
Oh, ham, there you are. Sometimes it’s sweet, sometimes it’s not but the fact about ham is that it is a certified fatty food. One serving of ham is 3 ounces and it has 2.7 grams of saturated fat. Not ideal, huh?

Salami

Salami
Salami is one of my favorites! But with just one tiny slice, it has 2 grams of saturated fat. So, I will have to think about it from now on especially if I don’t want to spend my sodium RDA in just one sitting.

Bacon

Bacon
Turkey bacon is nothing like real bacon. The crispiness and the juiciness – both at the same time, there’s just no food like it all. But it is the food devil, so to speak. It is super high in sodium and not to forget, sky rocket high when it comes to saturated fat.

Bologna

Bologna
Processed meat is really unhealthy and bologna is processed meat. You can eat this once in a while but not on a regular basis. A thin slice of bologna is 20% of sodium recommended daily allowance and saturated fat content of 3 grams. It’s too much.

Hotdogs

Hotdog
The king of processed meat is hotdogs. If you can stay away, please do. It only contains chemicals and sodium in high doses.

Mortadella

Mortadella
Mortadella may melt in your mouth but with that it comes with 14 grams of fat at only 2 ounces. The serving is half the regular meat serving and yet the sodium content is almost 30% of your RDA

Chicken Nuggets

Chicken Nuggets
Kids love chicken nuggets so much. Is it healthy? I used to think it was but now I see that it is not purely chicken. It has a lot of breading which are carbohydrates and carbs mean calories. If you really want to eat healthy chicken nuggets, don’t buy a pack of commercialized one. Do it home made.

Duck

Duck

Duck is supposed to be lean and healthy. It becomes fattening when it is made into high sodium or high fat recipe. So a tip: don’t fry it with too much oil and skip the duck skin. One serving already has 2.3 grams of saturated fat. Don’t lather more oil on that.
